Ciudad del Este
Ciudad del Este is most famous for shopping tourism. When crossing the Friendship Bridge (border between Brazil and Paraguay), within a few meters you find the first malls. There is the street trade part, but in the last few years, Ciudad del Este has seen its shopping area be completely renovated. In addition to infrastructure investment, there has been an improvement in public safety and urbanism. The malls in Ciudad del Este have products of imported brands. There is a wide variety of options in electronics, watches, perfumes, makeup, beverages, decoration, sports brands, toys and tools for babies. Over time, niche markets were also forming. Thus, there are shops specializing in cooking utensils, seasonings and imported wines, cosmetics, camping items, fishing, biking and designer clothes. If you buy electronics, stores will test the equipment before you take it. Some malls also have good structure with bathrooms, parking and food court. Stores open early and the common currency is the US dollar, real or credit card.
Although not located in Ciudad del Este, but in a super-close city (Presidente Franco), it is worth highlighting two attractions: the visit to the Monday Falls and also the Moisés Bertoni Museum. In terms of food, there are great options in the malls. But do not miss the opportunity to try “chipa”, a roast snack made from sprinkles and cheese.
The nightlife of Ciudad del Este is much sought after for its casino. The activity is legalized in the country. There are more than 250 state-of-the-art machines, roulette tables, black jack, mini baccarat – Poker, Texas Hold’em Poker, point and bankroll. For those who like games, the big advantage is that the casino is very close to Brazil, just across the Friendship Bridge.
